ALONE IN THE UNIVERSE: HIGH CHART HOPES

Hello ... Hello ... my old friends ... It's great to see you once again! Now that "Alone In The Universe" - the new Jeff Lynne's ELO album, released yesterday [Friday 13th November] - has hit the proverbial shelves, the attention will surely now shift for ELO fans during the next week to see where AITU lands in the Official UK Album Chart next week after what has been an intensive promotional campaign

Considering the previous chart placings for ELO and Jeff Lynne original LP's, "Alone In The Universe" will be in good company when [not if] it enters the upper reaches of the UK Album Chart, set to be announced on Friday 20th November at 5:45PM. Here's an ELOBF summary of those previous ELO UK album chart placings [excluding compilations] for you to peruse thus:

Yours Truly KJS is of the opinion that a Top 5 placing would be deemed a more than satisfying success for what is the first complete studio album of new ELO material since "Zoom". And don't be surprised if you also see a decent album chart re-entry for the best-selling "All Over The World" compilation too!

ELO Beatles Forever [ELOBF] recommends "Alone In The Universe" by Jeff Lynne's ELO to those enlightened folks who enjoy the music of ELO, Jeff LynneRoy WoodThe MoveThe Idle Race'Brum Beat'The Beatles and related artistes.

Until next "Time" in the ELO [and related] Universe ... KJS ... 14-Nov-2015

    1. Thanx Ethan. If only Eldorado had also attained its rightful place at the head of the UK album charts in '74. It's a real tragedy that it failed to dent the UK Top 10 but great that it was ELO's breakthrough LP in the States. KJS@ELOBF

  2. I am hoping it will be number 3 or higher but up against Justin Bieber and One Direction new release this week so 3 maybe the best to hope for.Bryan Adams got to number 2 but I expect that would of been with considerably less sales than Alone in the Universe will get and so sometimes Chart position can just be the luck of the draw.
At moment for the last 24 hours ELO top of Amazon charts and sitting at number 6 on iTunes but with 2 compilation albums that won't count and Adele preorder ahead of it which suggest it will hit number 3.In both charts it is significantly doing better than Get Up was doing during its first week position at the same stage so is looking good, but who knows how these charts work.
I work for a major supermarket and even though sales across the board except at Christmas for CDs are not high I had a scan to see what sale were for first day for 3 new releases,ELO had 6,Bieber 1 and One Direction 0.
Only a small snapshot I know but the number 1 Album last week for sale in the store was Elvis and that sold 12 for whole week so we could see a lot of physical sales for ELO as we oldies all like to have a physical copy.
With the Royal Variety Show being shown on Sunday as possibly the last bit of visual promotion to boost sales it will be interesting to see what the midweek update chart position will show on Tuesday.
Really enjoying album with All My Life now crept to position as favourite track.

  3. Bland and forgettable album, but clever marketing. The ELO name on it will help it sell, more so than it was just Jeff Lynne solo album, that in reality it is.
