CAUGHT LIVE [3]: WINGS OVER ABBEY ROAD

Hello ... Hello ... my old friends ... It's great to see you once again! The last time that Yours Truly KJS attended a gig in Wombourne was over twenty years ago to see the late, great Kelly Groucutt in action. Therefore, a return trip to South Staffordshire on the night of Saturday 23rd July to see Wings Over Abbey Road for the first time in over a year was both poignant and well timed as this Beatles and Paul McCartney themed sextet delivered another polished and entertaining set in the homely and welcoming surroundings of Wombourne CT&B Club.

Be it their note perfect rendition of most of the Abbey Road Medley, their inspired selection of tracks from The Beatles' songbook and their quite amazing live reproduction of Wings classics - Wings Over Abbey Road continue to amaze their audiences, particularly with the vocal clarity of Chris Brighton and Mike Tinsley, the astounding guitar craft of Nick Mellor and the accurate keys of Colin Noon, not forgetting the wonderful vocal harmonies of Debbie Lee-Richardson and the impressive percussion of 'new boy' Steve James. As ever, hearing the likes of "Golden Slumbers" and "Maybe I'm Amazed" performed live with the emotion they deserve is always a highlight but, yet again, "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" was simply sublime as were their renditions of "Band On The Run""Silly Love Songs" and "Let 'Em In" - to name a few. It was an privilege to be in attendance and it is equally an pleasure to briefly review another fantastic WOAR show. Go see 'em folks!
