CAUGHT LIVE [3]: ROY WOOD ROCK & ROLL BAND

Hello ... Hello ... my old friends ... It's great to see you once again! The return of: Roy Wood and his Rock 'n' Roll Band to The Robin 2 after a two year break last night for the aptly titled "40th Anniversary of I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday" Black Country Christmas Show was well worth the wait as the Birmingham music legend delivered a stunning set last night [Thursday 12th December] to a venue bursting at the seams with his many fans and admirers.
Roy Wood has a long and rich list of major hits with significant [but not nearly enough] recognition from not only his time with The MoveELO and Wizzard but also as a solo artiste. And his eight [8] piece band not only filled the Robin 2 stage, they sent the enthusiastic audience into raptures as the impressive four [4] man brass section, nicely supplemented by the rhythm section led, of course, by Roy, opened the pages of his legendary "Music Book" once again.
After the enterprising, amusing and downright entertaining support provided energetically by Big Up The 90's, we were all treated on the night to a greatest hits collage of those Woody penned classics including: "California Man", "Blackberry Way", "Flowers In The Rain", "Fire Brigade", "I Can Hear The Grass Grow", "See My Baby Jive", "Ball Park Incident", "Angel Fingers", "Are You Ready To Rock?" as well as the more recent songs "Boadicea", "Big Girl Blues", "New York City" and the drum-thumping "Roy's Revenge". Naturally, the climax of a fantastic set was a raucous and lively rendition of "I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day".
In between songs and knobs falling from the odd guitar, Roy candidly recalled far-flung events such as writing most of "Fire Brigade" on a London bound train "a long time ago" and his use of his five stringed guitar creation with The Move at The Fillmore West in San Francisco to the enthralled crowd.
It was great to see [and hear] the infamous bagpipes make another appearance during "Are You Ready To Rock?" [see above blurry photos] and a real pleasure to meet up with Martin Kinch from Cherry Blossom Clinic as well as Ben Jones [the Welsh half of ELduO] and Jeff Cooper during the proceedings.
