Hello ... Hello ... my old friends ... It's great to see you once again! August 2012 is just around the corner and it will see the return of that seminal ELO 1977 classic 2LP "Out Of The Blue" to 180g vinyl [#MOVLP383]. Not only that, but for the first 1,000 copies from the Music On Vinyl press, OOTB will also be available in limited edition transparent blue vinyl, as mentioned here thus:

RETURN TO VINYL [2]: A NEW WORLD RECORD & OUT OF THE BLUE

As you can see by viewing the above 51 second long YouTube clip, the production run is well under way. "Out Of The Blue" is due for release shortly on Monday 6th August 2012. This exciting re-release is a tempting yet worthwhile purchase for the record buying ELO connoisseur - even if you don't currently possess a turntable!

OVERVIEW: JEFF LYNNE, LONG WAVE & MR. BLUE SKY

Hello ... Hello ... my old friends ... It's great to see you once again! So we now have some of the detail regarding those new Jeff Lynne & ELO albums to be released in Autumn 2012. We know the artwork, we know the track listings and [more or less] we know the release dates! There appears to have been a mixed reaction from the ELO & Jeff Lynne fan base ranging from outright disappointment to the hopeful anticipation of what Jeff has been working on so diligently and for so long.

The ELOBF view is this. There is no shortage of artistes who have either revisited their own back catalogue or recorded albums of their own interpretations of either 'classic' tracks or, indeed, their own favourites. The list includes long established music legends like Paul McCartney, Bryan Ferry, Rod Stewart, Glenn Frey and even the likes of Robbie Williams. Both Chris Rea and Def Leppard have re-recorded and updated their original masterpieces. So what Jeff is doing is not unusual but it certainly is a semi-surprise.

We should look forward to the twin release of "Long Wave" and "Mr. Blue Sky: The Very Best of Electric Light Orchestra" because it is so very long since we saw Jeff Lynne out there releasing. Twenty two [22] years is a long time but it should be noted that both Joe Walsh and Glenn Frey have recently successfully ended double decade recording famines too.

We can look also forward to new ELO track "The Point Of No Return" [copyrighted in 2005 but 'new' nonetheless] on the MBS release and his cover of Roy Orbison's "Running Scared" on "Long Wave". Yours Truly KJS wouldn't be at all surprised if we see a bonus disc of "Zoom Tour Live" material and even a re-mastered, expanded "Armchair Theatre" within the next twelve [12] month time frame too. Watch that space!

ELO Beatles Forever [ELOBF] supports, endorses and recommends the past, present and future work of Jeff Lynne and, of course, ELO. This includes getting behind these two [2] new releases and catapulting Jeff and ELO back into the UK Top 10 album chart once again, hopefully for an extended period of time, up to and beyond Christmas.

POST PART II: PETE HAYCOCK & TRUE BLUES

Hello ... Hello ... my old friends ... It's great to see you once again! It is indeed good to see that former Climax Blues Band and ELO Part II founder Pete Haycock is still plying his superb [slide] guitar trade over in Germany and in LA. With many thanx to Deb Chabotte of the Pete Haycock Appreciation Society for making me aware of this excellent newspaper gig review from Germany by Oliver Hochkeppel - which I have very loosely translated and paraphrased:

"Not bad for a bunch of old guys!" stated guitarist Glen Turner after the second piece. And that was a British understatement! Even for those who attend these increasingly sparse Rhythm 'n' Blues gigs - and there are now no serious clubs in Munich for this genre - it will be a long time before they hear such an impressive concert than that of Pete Haycock and his True Blues quartet on Friday at Garching Ratskeller. A cellar gig for a modest fee and a few dozen enthusiastic listeners: A now sadly typical story for blues musicians who have seen better days. This is Pete Haycock, founding member of the Climax Blues Band with whom he was with for 15 years from 1969 to 1984. He has played with the likes of Stewart Copeland, Stanley Clarke and Gary Numan, was a guitarist with the Electric Light Orchestra Part Two, and he can also point to a remarkable solo career.

All this was in the good old days of R 'n' B ... But after ten years of studio work including his collaboration with Oscar winning film soundtrack composer Hans Zimmer, the lure of the live stage was too big. A band was needed, the road beckoned. Meanwhile in Offenbach, he poked at the Frankfurt-based British compatriot Glen Turner, who had a similar career. Even though he was on tour with: "Tommy" - a musical by The Who - and then with the Joe Cocker Band, and then in many studios, he was in desperate need of the kick of live music. This fitted together with another German-British ex-pat - Bass player Paul Harriman - who played with Anne Haigis, Purple Schultz, Milva and Jennifer RushAnd here in Garching, you could experience three great musicians/singers amplified by the promising young Aschaffenburg drummer Matthias Ladewig ... always readily imaginative and providing the backbone of the band. A remarkably wide repertoire from: "Roadhouse Blues" [The Doors] to "Come Together" [The Beatles] to "Call Me The Breeze" [J J Cale] to "Love Sneakin' Up On You" [Bonnie Raitt] to Haycock's own "Lucienne" were performed. The set began with phenomenal solos and duets, with superb improvising with the pure guitar magic of the slide guitar. Once again, it was proof that R & B is so versatile and much more expressive than any other style.

What a contrast to the majority of today's pop music, which is .. dominated by ... mostly the same producers such as Timbaland and The Neptunes - pop clones. It is therefore high time for a real Rhythm 'n' Blues revival ... so earthy and so musically diverse as any other. If [R 'n' B] were rediscovered by a new generation, there are hopefully a few guitarists who can follow on from these "old guys"!

Wouldn't it be great if Pete could bring his True Blues over to the UK? A gig at The Robin 2 would be fantastic! ELO Beatles Forever [ELOBF] recommends Pete Haycock and his True Blues project to those enlightened folks who also like ELO, Jeff LynneRoy Wood'Brum Beat'The Idle RaceThe MoveThe Beatles and related artistes.

FIRST LIGHT: NEW JEFF LYNNE ALBUMS RELEASE

Hello ... Hello ... my old friends ... It's great to see you once again! News is now starting to seep into the ELOBF universe that the long awaited follow-ups to "Armchair Theatre" by Jeff Lynne [1990] have been given a release date of 3rd October 2012 by amazon @ Germany whereas the Japanese release date will be on 26th September 2012 according to HMV @ Japan. Here are Jeff's very own words regarding this fantastic news:

"Hi, this is Jeff Lynne, and I've got a bit of news for you! To anyone who has been waiting for me to release some new recordings ... thanks for waiting, you're the best. I know it's been way too long again, but I'm hoping you'll think it was worth the wait. I have two new albums and some other surprises coming shortly! It's true, honestly! [I'm not kidding] Really! Both are very unusual and I'm excited to share them with you. It was a real pleasure to work on these projects. They may have taken a few years to complete, but I can tell you it was some of the best musical fun I've ever had. Stay tuned!"

"Long Wave" is set for release on 8th October 2012 in most European territories [this may vary by plus or minus a week] and it will most likely be available in tandem with "Mr. Blue Sky: The Very Of Electric Light Orchestra" - a compilation of ELO covers by Jeff Lynne. ELO Beatles Forever [ELOBF] will publish further details of both releases, "Sooner Or Later".

WHAT DO YA THINK OF THIS?

Hello ... Hello ... my old friends ... It's great to see you once again! The latest Jeff Lynne reworking of his classic ELO back catalogue is the lively "Do Ya", originally released as a Move track on "Message From The Country" [1971] and also a key element of ELO's 1976 breakthrough commercial album "A New World Record". It follows the recent reworking of "Mr. Blue Sky" and other ELO classics, predominantly for the medium of adverts or movie soundtracks.

Whilst Yours Truly KJS is of the mind that we are long overdue a Jeff Lynne solo album of new Jeff Lynne material, I'm still not so sure of the reasoning behind the much rumoured 2012 release of those ELO classics that we all know and love "in a new light" so to speak - other than the potential commercial benefits. On the other hand, plenty of other artistes have reworked their classics in the later stages of their careers. "New Light Through Old Windows" by Chris Rea comes to mind as an example of this. In any case, ELO Beatles Forever [ELOBF] looks forward to Jeff's new material - in whatever form it takes because we know it will be well worth that long wave ... er wait.

RECOMMENDED: RED SHOES

Hello ... Hello ... my old friends ... It's great to see you once again! One of the many blessings of attending the Brewood Music Festival last weekend was catching up again with ace Move guitarist Tony KelseyDuring our extended musical chat that evening, Tony discussed one of the other musical projects that he is working on, namely Red Shoes.

Red Shoes are a Midlands based folk/rock outfit who also feature Carolyn and Mark Evans, Tony Kelsey [on guitar/mandolin] and percussionist Bert Priest. The band have also worked with former ELO and Wizzard member Bill Hunt.
Their first critically acclaimed album "Ring Around The Land" was released in 2010 to much critical acclaim. But now in 2012, Red Shoes are working with Pledge Music to raise the necessary funds in order to produce and release their second, much anticipated release - produced by Mick Dolan - which will also feature Fairport Conventionists Dave Pegg and Dave Swarbrick. Yours Truly KJS has pledged - why don't you? 10% of post-target profits will be donated to The Stroke Association. Visit the official Red Shoes web site and Pledge Music page via these links thus:

CAUGHT LIVE: BREWOOD MUSIC FESTIVAL 2012

Hello ... Hello ... my old friends ... It's great to see you once again! Perhaps one of the most satisfying things about enjoying any kind of music genre is the anticipation of a gig and then not only the fulfillment but also the surpassing of those expectations. And so it was with the main day of the Brewood Music Festival last Saturday 14th July 2012, when The Move featuring Bev Bevan and Trevor Burton were joined by The Manfreds, local band The Loveless and the folksy-bluesy Ellen and The Escapades to produce a four band, five hour extravaganza.

Bev's incarnation of The Move with Phil Tree and Tony Kelsey were joined by impressive guest keyboardist/vocalist Julian Crook and delivered a note perfect set of songs including: "Flowers In The Rain"; "I Can Hear The Grass Grow"; "Fire Brigade"; "Something Else"; "California Man"; "Hey Joe"; "Gimme Some Lovin'" before ending with "Blackberry Way".

Together with fellow festival virgin Christian Evans, we touched base with not only Bev Bevan and Paul Jones, but we also engaged in a long all things musical "yak" with ace Move guitarist Tony Kelsey. I'm pleased to announce that I shall be interviewing Tony for ELO Beatles Forever [ELOBF] at some point in the future. The whole night was well organized, fully attended and a credit to the folks of Brewood and the organising committee that included our friend over at the South Staffordshire 'Village Times' in Jason BateThere is a saying that every picture tells a story so the above gallery of pictures from the festival means that I need add no more! You can find out what The Move are up to via their excellent new web site and Facebook page thus:

RECOMMENDED: STEVE GIBBONS/THE STEVE GIBBONS BAND

Hello ... Hello ... my old friends ... It's great to see you once again! One of the artistes in the ELO [and related] universe who has long been overdue a mention here on ELO Beatles Forever [ELOBF] by Yours Truly KJS is Steve Gibbons [and, of course, his fantastic band].

Steve is perhaps best known for his 1977 Top 20 hit "Tulane" [a #12 hit in the UK Singles chart] but his musical history goes back much further. A glance at the poster [opposite, left] reminds the reader of Steve's work with the likes of Ronnie WoodBill WymanThe UglysThe Idle Race and The Dylan ProjectBut Steve has also shared the stage also with ELOLynyrd Skynyrd, The J Geils BandGeorge Harrison and Nils Lofgren [amongst many others] down the years too. His musical journey is very much intertwined with the likes of Richard TandyDave Scott-MorganRoy WoodTrevor BurtonBev Bevan and Denny Laine [also amongst not a few other 'Brum Beat' legends]. The Steve Gibbons Band continues to tour extensively to packed houses - both nationally and internationally.
Which leads me to the reason that this particular article came about! And that reason is that Steve Gibbons will be playing an unplugged set at The Acoustic Cafe in Tamworth, Staffordshire on Sunday 29th July 2012. Steve will ably supported by BBBV and Eleanor Rigby Experience co-founder Tina McBain plus Jem McAuley and Abigail Byrne for this very special acoustic evening. Tickets are priced at just £8 each - please refer to the above poster for details on how to obtain said tickets. See you there?

NEW BGO ALBUM NEWS

Hello ... Hello ... my old friends ... It's great to see you once again! Yours Truly KJS was trawling through YouTube the other day looking for a rare video clip to support a yet future ELO Beatles Forever [ELOBF] article and fortuitously stumbled across these three [3] short animated clips for Bubble Gum Orchestra that I think are really cool:

Regular visitors to ELO Beatles Forever [ELOBF] will know that we are very excited about the forthcoming follow-up to "Out Of This World" and that BGO with Michael Laine Hildebrandt have featured not a few times here in the last six [6] months thus:
