INTERVIEW: RICK PRICE [The Move/Wizzard]

The Rockin' Berries with Rick Price [second left] and his "Top Ten Record" ...
Hello ... Hello ... my old friends ... It's great to see you once again! ELO Beatles Forever [ELOBF] is pleased to have secured an interview with Rick Price - former member of Sight & Sound, The Move, Mongrel, Wizzard and The Wizzo Band et al. Rick is currently a part of legendary 'Brum Beat' band The Rockin' Berries, who are currently touring the UK celebrating their 50th anniversary. Yours Truly KJS asked Rick these questions:

KJS: Greetings Rick! And thank you for taking part in this interview. It's nice to see that you are touring again with The Rockin' Berries. How did joining the Berries come about?
RP: Mike Sheridan didn't fancy the job and suggested me to Geoff Turton.
KJS: Tell me about the current tour. You are now celebrating the bands 50th anniversary. What has the crowd reaction been like in 2011?
RP: The first gig was 20 short of a sell-out. The second gig has been sold out for a few weeks. There are tickets available at the other venues but the punters need to be quick - we can only do ONE fiftieth anniversary tour!
KJS: We all fondly remember you as the bass player with The Move and Wizzard. But your musical journey has taken you further. Some of us recall your 1970 solo single “Top 10 Record”. But what other projects have you worked on and enjoyed?
RP: I had a great time with Peters & Lee and Jim Davidson - there have been many high points. Alongside the Rockin' Berries work, I still do duo gigs with my wife.
KJS: Can you recall the most memorable moments of your time with The Move?
RP: The US tour. We should have capitalized on it but the band was already starting to fall apart.
KJS: As The Move morphed into The Electric Light Orchestra; how did you adapt to that very new and different musical environment?
RP: I didn't adapt. I was not aware of the "morphing". A lot of the first ELO album started out as what I assumed were Move tracks. There is a lot more detail on this at rickprice.co.uk
KJS: What is your favourite song from your time with The Move?
RP: I'm a sucker for Roy's stuff but if you force me - "Cherry Blossom Clinic".
KJS: You also enjoyed major chart success with Roy Wood in Wizzard. Can you recall the most memorable moments of your time with Wizzard?
RP: Definitely the very first gig - Wembley Stadium.
KJS: What is your favourite song from your time with Wizzard?
RP: Rock & Roll Winter.
KJS: Returning to the present, you're coming to the Wulfrun Hall in Wolverhampton on Saturday 12th March. How can folks find out more about the current UK tour and buy tickets?
RP: www.therockinberries.com - click through to the "All Music Show". All the dates are listed.
KJS: Finally - a question I always ask - your absolute favourite Jeff Lynne/ELO songs are?
RP: "Turn To Stone" and "Telephone Line" - but my very favourite is the pre-ELO song "No More Sad Songs" by The Idle Race.

My thanx are extended to Rick for sparing his time and agreeing to participate in this interview. ELO Beatles Forever [ELOBF] recommends Rick Price and The Rockin' Berries to those enlightened folks who enjoy the music of ELO, Jeff LynneRoy WoodThe MoveThe Idle Race'Brum Beat'The Beatles and related artistes.
