ROBIN REVIEW: AN EVENING WITHOUT KELLY GROUCUTT
Hello ... Hello ... my old friends ... It's great to see you once again! Yours Truly KJS thought that you'd like to read the text of the review published in Wolverhampton's Express & Star newspaper on Tuesday 12th May for An Evening Without Kelly Groucutt, held at The Robin 2, Bilston on Monday night, so here it is for you to peruse thus:
Concert packed in Kelly’s honour
~ The Orchestra, Robin 2, Bilston ~
By Laura Blyth
"Hundreds of ELO fans packed out a concert in Bilston to pay tribute to the band’s former bass player Kelly Groucutt. It was a night the crowd at the Robin 2 club would never forget, as they got to see members of ELO, now named The Orchestra, perform some of their classics. The gig was a sell-out and fans were being turned away at the door. Other acts who performed during An Evening Without Kelly Groucutt included Mik Kaminski and Phil Bates, Kelly’s first professional band Danny Cannon & The Vibras and Family Groucutt, made up of Kelly’s sons, daughters and nephews. They were all there to pay their musical tributes to Kelly the “father”, “mentor” and “musician” who died on February 19 this year after a heart attack. ELO fan Elisabeth Smith, aged 61, of Broadway, Walsall , said all the acts were “fantastic”. Her friend Rosemary Manjunath, 48, of Park Hall, Walsall , added: “Kelly would have adored the concert. It painted a real picture of him.” All the money from the concert it being donated to the National Parrot Sanctuary Trust which was Kelly’s favourite charity."
Until next "Time" in the ELO [and related] Universe ... KJS ... 15-May-2009
